Understanding Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the cornerstone of our practice at Dr. Lorri & Associates. Our licensed acupuncturists use fine, sterile needles to stimulate specific points on the body, help restore balance, and promote healing. Acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and improve functioning.  This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points throughout the body to treat a wide range of conditions, including pain, stress, and digestive disorders.

The classical Chinese explanation is that paths of energy (meridians) run in patterns throughout the body and over its surface. These meridians can be influenced by stimulating acupuncture points. We have a modern explanation and it goes more like this; we know we have central and peripheral nervous systems, but have you ever considered further micro-nervous systems covering the entire body? They exist, though they are not fully detectable. The body started as a single cell which divided into two cells, then four, and so on. Everything is still connected. We stimulate acupuncture points near your “problem areas”, but also in distal areas of the body to seek homeostasis. Our theory is that the body always wants to heal itself. We just offer it guidance.

Acupuncture works best over time. It’s like going to the gym; one visit won't give you a six pack, but it’s a start. The more acupuncture treatments you receive, the more you benefit and the more likely your health will improve. This could be three visits or thirty. Our team will be better able to understand your need once you've been evaluated.
