Medical acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.

How Does Acupuncture Work?
The classical Chinese explanation is that paths of energy (meridians) run in patterns through the body and over its surface. These meridians can be influenced by stimulating the acupuncture points We have a modern explanation and it goes more like this; we know we have a central nervous system and peripheral nervous system, but have you ever considered further micro-nervous systems that cover the entire body? They exist, they are not full detectable by current technologies. The body was once one cell, two cells, four cells and so on. Everything is still connected. We stimulate acupuncture points near your “problem areas”, but also in distal areas of the body to seek homeostasis. Our theory is the body always wants to heal itself. We just offer it guidance.

Does Acupuncture Really Work?
Yes. In the past 3,500 or more years, more people have been treated with acupuncture than with all other health modalities combined.

Do I have to understand why acupuncture works?
No. Acupuncture physicians go to school for nearly four additional years on top of a required four-year bachelor’s degree.  They do not expect you to fully understand the science that took them years to master. Additionally, it is used successfully on cats, dogs, horses, and other animals. These animal patients do not understand or believe in the science behind it.

How often should I get acupuncture?
Acupuncture works best over time. It’s like going to the gym, one visit doesn’t give you a six pack, but it’s a start. The more you receive acupuncture, the more you benefit until your problem is resolved. This could be three visits or thirty. Dr. Lorri will be able to get a better idea once you've been evaluated.
